Webb7 aug. 2014 · Author Summary Lyme borreliosis, the most common vector-borne illness in Northeastern parts of USA, is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato spirochetes, and transmitted by the Ixodes scapularis ticks. Currently there is no vaccine available to prevent Lyme borreliosis. A better understanding of tick proteins that interact with Borrelia to … Webb4 aug. 2024 · The Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi, colonizes the gut of the tick Ixodes scapularis, which transmits the pathogen to vertebrate hosts including humans. Here we show that B. burgdorferi colonization increases the expression of several tick gut genes including pixr, encoding a secreted gut protein with a Reeler domain.

WebbOne of the best studied activities present in tick saliva corresponds to the antigen known as Salpl5, which binds specifically to the T-cell coreceptor CD4 resulting in the specific repression of CD4 + T-cell activation. We discuss here the current state of our knowledge of the mode of action of this salivary protein.

Webb19 jan. 2024 · Ticks are blood-sucking arthropods that have developed myriad of strategies to get a blood meal from the vertebrate host. They first attach to the host skin, select a bite site for a blood meal, create a feeding niche at the bite site, secrete plethora of molecules in its saliva and then starts feeding. On the other side, host defenses will try to counter … Webb6 apr. 2016 · Ticks (Acari: Ixodida) are blood-sucking arthropods globally recognized as vectors of numerous diseases. They are primarily responsible for the transmission of various pathogens, including viruses, rickettsiae, and blood parasites of animals. Ticks are second to mosquitoes in terms of disease transmission to humans. The continuous …
