Rhynia extinction
WebbRhynia es un género de plantas fósiles que vivieron durante el Devónico inferior, probablemente en lugares semipantanosos. Tenían protostela (una estela simple), lo que indica la simplicidad de su sistema vascular. Los primeros restos de fósiles de este género fueron encontrados en el yacimiento de Rhynie Chert, lugar al que debe su nombre. WebbRhynie fossils were preserved when mineral sediments settled around and on top of the organic matter and compressed them. Over time, the fossils were formed through silica replacement of the organic material. The silica deposits may have originated from hot springs and volcanic activity common in the Devonian and around the Rhynie fossil beds.
