These units are interconnected and extend to form layers only about 10 Å thick. WebBentonite is a clay mineral based on montmorillonite, a swelling clay mineral, with a negative surface charge and a high surface area. It is available as either Ca2+ or Na + forms, usually the latter. It is a colloid with a particle size of less than 1 μm and as such tends to form stable suspensions.
