WebJul 18, 2011 · Pulled everything apart, cleaned and inspected all fittings. Installed new wire mesh gaskets in each cylinder head. Installed the new HD header pipe SS wire mesh gaskets along with grade 8 header studs. Torqued the stud nuts to 120 in/lbs. Installed the slip-ons. Road the bike & all seemed perfect. WebNov 1, 2011 · Right after the flange, my pipes diameter gets bigger. There is not enough room bewteen the bolt head and the increase of diameter to even get the socket on the bolt head. I can get the stubby wrench in there, but its a huge PITA Unfortunately I do not know what brand my pipes are.

WebNov 15, 2010 · Grab onto the stud length wise, tighten the vice grips up good, then unscrew the stud. What you'll need to replace them is a 5/16 coarse on one end and 5/16 fine on the other stud. Normally they are an 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 long. The coarse side is a little longer so it bottoms out in the head. Next tighten the LOWER nut to 60-80 INCH-LBS and finish by tightening the UPPER nut to 60-80 INCH-LBS. The rear cylinder: Install the UPPER nut and tighten finger tight.
